In June 2024, there were almost 10 million people experiencing food poverty in the UK, including 2.7 million children. This had risen from 7.2 million people, or 11% of the UK population, in 2022/23.
Looking at the global picture, 2.33 billion people experienced moderate or severe food insecurity and 900 million faced ongoing severe food insecurity in 2023, according to The State of the Nation’s Food Industry report published in November 2024.
