Methane, emitted from food waste in landfill is an even more potent Greenhouse Gas (GHG) than Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Methane represents 8-10% of the UK’s total GHG emissions.

There is widespread acknowledgement of the need to reduce CO2 emissions to tackle climate change, and the transport sector has been in the spotlight, driving the emission reduction agenda forward.

With methane having 80 times the warming effect of CO2 over 20-years, reducing food waste and diverting it from landfill has become an increasing national and global priority.

CO2 is not the only Greenhouse Gas having an impact on the warming of the planet.
